THE INGREDIENTS THAT MAKE IT HAPPEN & THE RESEARCH TO PROVE WE AREN'T MAKING IT UP:
Citrus Aurantium is a fruit-bearing citrus tree native to Southeast Asia. The naturally occurring whole-fruit of Citrus Aurantium is a rich source of flavonoid-type compounds with diverse biological effects. Citrus Aurantium is purported to have effects on metabolic processes, which include increased resting metabolic rate and lipolysis (the breakdown of fats and other lipids) as well as mild appetite suppression and increases in weight loss in some individuals (1). 'Resting Metabolic Rate' (RMR) is the rate at which your body uses energy at complete rest. As such, an increase in RMR is synonymous with increased use of calories - even when you're not exercising. Combined with appetite suppression and the tendency to consume less calories, the 'calories in VS calories out' ratio becomes favourable for weight management.
Caffeine Caffeine is found naturally in various plants such as tea, coffee, Kola nut etc. Caffeine is classified as a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant, known for possessing mild stimulating properties. However, studies have demonstrated that caffeine may also decrease mental fatigue, enhance cognitive performance and increase the ability to concentrate and focus attention (2). Given caffeine's stimulating properties, caffeine may also indirectly support weight management. Allowing exercise with more mental and physical intensity, as well as increasing the motivation to exercise.
Green Tea Extract Amongst other constitutes Green Tea Extract contains a class of polyphenolic flavonoids known as 'catechins'. Catechins are natural phytochemicals found in various foods and plants. However, catechins are especially high in Green Tea Extract. Although there are numerous catechins 'epigallocatechin gallate' (EGCG) appears to be the most pharmacologically active of the catechins. In fact, a recent study demonstrated that average fat oxidation (conversion of fat into energy) rates were 17% higher after ingestion of Green Tea Extract compared to placebo. Furthermore, the contribution of fat oxidation to total energy expenditure was also significantly higher (3). The data demonstrates that catechins found in Green Tea Extract support natural energy yielding metabolism and significantly encourage the use of fat for energy.
L-Theanine L-theanine, a natural constituent of tea, is an amino acid able to cross the blood brain barrier and relax the brain without inducing drowsiness (4). When combined, L-theanine and caffeine produce a synergistic effect, meaning they enhance the properties of each other. As such, the combination of L-theanine and caffeine have more pronounced effects on improving brain function and energy levels than caffeine or L-theanine alone (5).
Chromium Picolinate Chromium picolinate is a form of the mineral 'chromium', most commonly used in food supplements due to chromium picolinate's favourable bioavailability. Chromium picolinate is purported to have properties favourable for weight management such as: reduced cravings for fatty food and appetite suppression. One study looking at the effects of chromium picolinate on over-weight women demonstrated that chromium picolinate reduced food intake, hunger levels, fat cravings and also tended to decrease body weight, as compared to placebo (6). Although the mechanism underlying the reductions in body weight and food intake aren't fully understood, the data suggest it may be mediated by a direct effect on the brain. In other words, chromium picolinate appears to increase satiety towards food and as such reduce the desire to overeat.
Guarana Seed Extract Guarana is a fruit native to Brazil which is habitually ingested by people of the Amazon region primarily for its health tonic and stimulant properties. Other reported effects include: weight loss, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity as well as known anti-aging effects (7). (It's hardly surprising that we included Guarana Seed Extract in BURN!) Correctly dosed guarana has also been shown to improve memory, alertness and mood in double-blind, placebo-controlled studies (8).
B-Vitamins (B3, B6 & B12) B-vitamins help the body to metabolise and store energy from protein, carbohydrates and fats in food. Although a well-planned and balanced diet is able to meet all nutritional requirements, it isn't always the case. For example, vitamin B12 deficiency is common, mainly due to limited dietary intake of animal foods or malabsorption of the vitamin (9). Furthermore, calorie restriction and restricted dietary intake (when dieting or through a lack of planning) can increase the risk of vitamin deficiency. Although B-vitamins aren't a Miricale that will make you lose weight, B-vitamins do contribute to an energy yielding metabolism. As such, it is important to ensure you have an adequate amount, either through dietary intake or through supplementation.
Black Pepper Extract (95% Piperine) Black Pepper (Piper Nigrum L.) has long been recognised for its therapeutic potential and traditional use as a potent antioxidant, antimicrobial and gastro-protectant. More specifically, the key alkaloid component of Piper Nigrum, 'piperine' has been shown to assist in cognitive brain functioning, improve gastrointestinal functionality and boost nutrient absorption (10). In fact, piperine is purported to enhance absorption of ingredients by as much as 200%. Although the mechanism of action is not fully understood, piperine is thought to increase absorption by stimulating gut amino acid transporters (11). Enhanced absorption means ingredients are used more efficiently and as such greater efficacy.

Will I Be Able To Sleep? Yes, as long as you follow the suggested use. Avoid using BURN at least 8 hours before bed to make sure BURN doesn't interfere with your sleep. Can I Use BURN When Fasting? Yes, you can. The ingredients used in BURN are effective with or without food. However, you may find that the effects are more pronounced when using BURN on an empty stomach.
