Mint!
They work mint! Due to my life style I can't get to the gym until 8pm during the week. Once I've finished training it takes me ages to settle back down and be able to get to sleep. These calm make a massive difference! I just take 4 caps when I'm leaving the gym. By the time I have my shake and get home, I'm literally ready for bed! The sleep is always deep and the dreams... well you could make a movie!

Make me sleep like a baby!
I work long hours and have a demanding job. I was finding it difficult to switch off at night and often woke up during the night thinking about what I needed to do the next day. I came across these on google and thought I'd give them a try. So pleased I did, they are brilliant! They're my go to for a good sleep. I leave them on my bedside and take 4 capsules before I get into bed. I can literally feel my body relax. I fall asleep much faster, have vivid dreams and wake up fresh.

THE INGREDIENTS THAT MAKE IT HAPPEN & THE RESEARCH TO PROVE WE AREN'T MAKING IT UP:
Lemon Balm
Lemon Balm is a perennial herbaceous plant known for its therapeutic benefits and fresh lemon scent. Records showing Lemon Balm's use as a medicinal herb date back over 2000 years. Lemon Balm is historically and contemparily reported to have multiple benefits. However, Lemon Balm is included in CALM due to increasing evidence that Lemon Balm is able to significantly improve calmness as well as reduce cortisol (the primary stress hormone) levels (1). Furthermore, clinical studies have demonstrated that Lemon Balm can successfully be used to significantly improved acute and chronic anxiety and depression without serious side effects (2).
Ashwagandha Root
Classical Ayurvedic texts show that Ashwagandha has been used for thousands of years to reduce stress and improve mood and concentration (3). Ashwagandha is considered as a safe and effective adaptogen (a plant used to reduce stress). In fact a recent clinical study concluded that Ashwagandha root extract safely and effectively improves an individual’s resistance towards stress and thereby improves precieved quality of life, due to substantially reduced serum cortisol levels resulting in significant reductions in stress levels (4).
Holy Basil Leaf
According to the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine, Holy Basil Leaf has anti-depressant and anti-anxiety properties comparable to prescription anti-depressant drugs. People using Holy Basil Leaf daily reported less: anxiety, depression and stress. A percentage also felt more sociable and a greater sense of well-being. (5) Evidence is mounting that Holy Basil is able to address not only psychological stress but also physical, chemical and metabolic stress, through a unique combination of actions. Holy Basil has been found to protect organs and tissues against chemical stress from industrial pollutants and heavy metals, as well as oxiditive stress from prolonged physical exertion (6). As such Holy Basil Leaf may provide not only welcomed reductions in stress levels but also other additional benefits in an increasingly fast paced and polluted world.
Chamomile Flower
The daisy-like plant Chamomile is one of the oldest medicinal herbs known to mankind. Traditionally, Chamomile preparations have been used to treat insomnia and to induce calming effects. Which isn't surprising given that Chamomile is widely regarded as a sleep-inducer. It is thought that Chamomile's sedative effects may be due to the flavonoid, 'apigenin' that binds to benzodiazepine receptors which have sedative and anxiolytic (anxiety reduction) actions(7). There's mounting scientific weight that Chamomile extract can been used as a mild sedative to calm nerves and reduce nightmares, insomnia and other sleep problems (8).
Zinc
Zinc has for many years been a go to supplement for those looking for immunity support. However, evidence indicates that Zinc may also be involved in the regulation of sleep. This could in part be due to the discovery that orally administered zinc increases the amount and quality of sleep in both animal and human studies (9). Zinc does also plays a vital role in immune response and is critical for sustaining proper immune function. In fact supplementing with Zinc may help reduce the risk of infections (10).
Magnesium
Magnesium is a mineral which has recently gained attention as a potential sleep aid. This is perhaps due to research increasingly suggesting that Magnesium helps to activate the parasympathetic nervous system (which is responsible for helping your body feel calm and relaxed). There may be weight to the aforementioned. The results of one randomized controlled trial concluded that "persons with mental and physical stress can benefit from a daily intake of magnesium" (11).
L-Theanine
L-theanine, a natural constituent of tea (as well as some mushrooms), is an amino acid able to cross the blood brain barrier and relax the brain without inducing drowsiness (12). A study looking at L-Theanine's effects on stress found that after 4 weeks of L-Theanine administration, stress response symptoms (anxiety, depression and insomnia) decreased. Furthermore, sleep latency (the time taken to go from awake to sleeping) was reduced as were reported sleep disturbances (13).
Black Pepper Extract
Black Pepper (Piper Nigrum L.) has long been recognised for its therapeutic potential and traditional use as a potent antioxidant, antimicrobial and gastro-protectant. More specifically, the key alkaloid component of Piper Nigrum, 'piperine' has been shown to assist in cognitive brain functioning, improve gastrointestinal functionality and boost nutrient absorption (14). In fact, piperine is purported to enhance absorption of ingredients by as much as 200%. Although the mechanism of action is not fully understood piperine is thought to increase absorption by stimulating gut amino acid transporters (15). Enhanced absorption means ingredients are used more efficiently and as such greater efficacy.
